Yet again Ebay have shown that they have not thought something through and are leaving themselves open yet again. If we could just get a competitor to least give them a kick up the arse.
The 5% charge would have saved me £100's over the last few years, how does the tax code you posted get applied? Should the seller be marking it as that or is it UK customs getting it wrong? Should I try and claim it all back?

Has anyone else noticed more and more US members join up to what is called the "Global Postage Programme"?.

It's basically a new way of sellers shipping items from eBay.com without having the hasstle of buyers refusing an item, the buyer is force to pay at "Checkout". The only issue I see is that the ammount seems higher than if it were charged by UK customs. Suddenly I'm finding that I can't buy anymore:-(
I find that postage from the US and Canada is getting more and more expensive. I was recently charged $48 for a single figure from Canada to the UK. In the end I had to get it posted to a friend in Canada instead.

The changes in the eBay search engine coupled with the cost of postage in general is making me buy less and less. It's becoming more and more common that the postage is more expensive than the item bought.

Oh and don't get me started on selling!

If they don't get a competitor they will eventually hang themselves. The more they charge and change for the worse the more they'll put people off. As a consequence usage will drop and then they'll be interested in what people don't like.

I was told this by several US sellers and at first I was really insulted but then I came to the understanding that perhaps they're right.

EBay UK and Europe is small fry compared to the eBay.com, I really don't think they give a sh*t about the UK.

We recently saw ROMA declare no more European sales. (I always found him VERY expensive anyway). I'm glad I've got about 90% of what I need now, it would be impossible start a collection now!
I also think honesty plays a massive factor in it, I always use recorded delivery unless its through the forum, Theres nothing to prevent dishonesty on eBay!

Yep, it's much more sensible to use an intermediary friend in the US to stockpile overseas auctions, then ship them together, maybe even by surface mail.

You have to appeal the decision when you pay the original fee. You have to speak to an adviser or send them a letter to appeal their decision. You can also ask the seller to mark on the customs form "Old collectible toy' HMRC code 9705000090 5% VAT applicable only" and it should get through.

Thats my current strategy, have an alliance with Silverc and it has saved me many €'s in shipping and customs fee in the past 2-3 years.
