Got it in one. ;-) I'll have to re-read that story I think.

A bit like "Tomorrow when the war began".
Let me tell you, Gunner La-De-Dah Graham, the British Army can fight anything! Intimate or not!

Well most of it's about Surfing (Choppers stories great) but the Dredd side with Brendan McCarthy and Wil Simpsons art that's the part of the adventure I really liked (I 'm not a sporting man I must confess but loved Super Surf 7 in it's condensed form more so than Super Surf 10 ) the art from that segment of story along with the original colouring from Hawks Challenge plus plenty of photo reference .. Just I hope I do a good job on it ..

Great blog Fuzz; colouring work looks excellent too.
fuzzchile wrote:"In a Art of Joe Coloqhoun book".. personally didn't think Scott's stories were weak or anything , I enjoyed the episodes where Oily and Ol Bill have a boxing fight for example , Joe really did a great job aging those characters, I think Scott Goodall did his best to try and capture the spirit of the original characters .. but perhaps it lacked the anger and acid wit that Pat injected .. One of the reasons Pat decided to stop was the research budget seemed to be a vital factor in writing these stories.. I would of liked to of seen Smith 70 and Young Alf in WW2 era come to think of it, but they are so Mills I guess only he could write them.
Yeah that would be a good idea. Agree, Goodall did what he could. OK, Mills didn't get his budget, but there was material enough out there. More came to light in the 90s (exposing the myths of the 'clean' North Africa campaign), but even now more is coming out regarding the Germans on the Western Front (taped conversations when they were interned after the war), even watching the World at War provides a lot of info not necessarily in conventional narratives.

On the other hand, WW2 didn't feature UK businessmen selling barbed wire to Germany via Switzerland, tho' we did pay the interest on some obscure debt to the German Empire via Zurich. But it did feature Prescott Bush and et al reaping in a few Reichsmarks (computing tech support facilitated the arrangement of train timetables for civilians, troops, war supplies, and death camp transit on the Eastern Front). And of course ripping off the UK with lend-lease, much of which we handed on almost for free to Stalin after June 41.
fuzzchile wrote:Book 10 .. I think perhaps it is fitting it ends there .. I actually thought it quite strange at the time how the story in Russia ended so suddenly and the fact it jumped years within the space of weeks .. I kinda of got used to the Charley saga at it's proper pace.
Yeah that was a bit odd, but, perhaps, inevitable. And agree about Joe still competing with his peers on Mask et. al.

That was such a great story. Only read it once back in the 80s. Completely forgot about our ubiquitous hero :kraken:
