A new guy with some questions!!!
Hello all!
I came across your site doing some research on a red Hyena tank with HISS driver I recently purchased, and I have some questions about it (your site answered a few already, thanks!)
I hope you don't mind answering, if you could.
Am I right in understanding that the Red Hyena, with cobra stickers and the red cobra HISS driver, was basically an overstock Red Shadow HISS with the cobra stickers and HISS driver included to liquidate the red HISS tanks - after which they included the black HISS tank in the packages?
Also, I'm a little confused by this picture:
http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/afonlin ... ickers.jpg
Did each vehicle come with the stickers for all of them? Or did all the vehicles come in 1 big set with that sticker sheet?
The reason I am curious is the tank with HISS driver I bought is red, but has the sticker application shown in the catalog pics of the black HISS here:
http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/afonlin ... tle_15.jpg
rather than the application of stickers shown on this one:
http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/afonlin ... edhiss.JPG
Looking at that pic ^^ I can see the extra stickers that are on that tank (compared to mine) are included on the pic of the sticker sheet above.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Anyway, fantastic site you have here, and a wealth of information!! I hope to make it a regular stop for my browsing now.
Thanks again!

Re: A new guy with some questions!!!
Hmm,
I'm afraid I don't know, but I wouldn't be at all surprised about the red Hyenas being used up as overstock, that sounds most credible. I remember when I bought my Night Attack (Stinger) jeep it came with the wheels for an SAS Panther.
Yes, the stickers for the first wave of Cobra and AF all came as a huge generic sheet with each individual toy, that red Hyena in the pic has way too many extra stickers on it LOL. It was a really great idea, I managed to pick up some intact sheets from ebay a while back for my customs (in fact I think it was from the Kraken Wakes).
Sorry I can't be more help, I only really collect the Red Shadows era, but I'm sure someone here will know. Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the gang! I appreciate the praise!

Re: A new guy with some questions!!!
As far as I'm aware, palitoy used the last stocks of the Red Shadow Hyenas until they were supplied with the Cobra ones. To quote the toy archive:
"The Palitoy Cobra range was released as a single wave, although some products were initially Red Shadow era ones with overstickers on the boxes, both the Hyena and Roboskull initially available were subject to this treatment, and as a result the old Red Wolf and Red Jackal figures lingered on, Red Wolf becoming the last Star Wars figure style jointed figure in the range"
If you look at the Cobra Hyena page on the archive you can see a picture of this.

Re: A new guy with some questions!!!
Thanks all!!
I see the picture of the Hyena/Red Jackal box with the Cobra logo sticker on it.
Does anyone know if IN that box was actually the Hyena with Red Shadow stickers and Red Jackal (destro), or if in that box was the Hyena with the new Cobra stickers and the USA release HISS driver?
Thanks again!

Re: A new guy with some questions!!!
It'll have been a Red Shadows edition for sure. That one would have been good to go and they just stuck a sticker over the top.
I've been thinking on this, not only did my Stinger came with panther wheels, but my FANG came with yellow trim - it was a Hawk with Cobra stickers, these all came in proper Cobra packaging. I also have a boxed AF Whirlwind that came with a Z Force sticker sheet.
I've long had a theory that when the Red Shadows were usurped by Cobra that Palitoy didn't bother providing IPC Magazines with a complete set of the new range, which will be why we kept on seeing Destro drawn as Red Jackal, Stalker as Jammer, etc. Red Wolf and Dolphin are the original figs on the Datafiles.
Cheapskate bastards.

Re: A new guy with some questions!!!
I'd rather have the good people of Palitoy over the current Hasbro UK crowd.
Why oh why when the Joe vs Cobra line was launched over here back in the early 00s didn't Hasbro Uk, heck Hasbro Europe full stop, market them as Action Force. That way as well as kids they would have got us nostalgic oldies on board too.

I always wondered why one of mine had the rubber wheels ?I bought my Night Attack (Stinger) jeep it came with the wheels for an SAS Panther.
An answer long searched for has now been answered

Wow. Lots of great info here. This is the kind of stuff that interests me about the hobby now. I've been collecting since I was a kid, but obscure information like this is what really gets me going these days. Awesome.
Re: A new guy with some questions!!!
Hello there!
There were three variants:
1. The Enemy Hyena (Red) C/W Red Jackal
2. Cobra Hyena (Red) C/W HISS Driver or Red Jackal???
3. Cobra Hyena (Black) C/W HISS Driver
Now the packaging...I think:
1. The Enemy Logo, Red Jackal and Red Hyena picture box
2. Cobra Sticker over Enemy Logo on the above box
3. Cobra Logo, HISS Driver and Red Hyena (Different picture to 1.) picture box.
I'm not sure if there was a picture box with the Black Hyena. It may have been the same as the Black Wolverine being boxed in the Ton-Up Green Wolverine box i.e. the Black Hyena in a box with the Red Hyena on it.
Palitoy variations make my head spin...hope this helps!!!
Cheers
Jon
