As to why the team never made it to production is open to more speculation, maybe 5 teams were too many? Maybe Special Weapons or the science angle was just not exciting enough. Maybe the lack of action figure diversity led to the halt. Whatever the reason, 25 years later they make a welcome return to the fold... No man left behind.
