well, the characters are all going to be Joes. it'd be Joes VS Shads. by the time I've pitched it, got it accepted, got it written and so on, it'll be next year, at least.

but, yeah, the 'remake' of Jungle Terror stars Scarlett, Heavy Duty, Breaker and Snake Eyes, with :eagle2: :quick: :sparrow: and :jammer: as supporting characters. the story then follows into the remake of Desert Strike, as :major: flees Natanga to Duna, and the Giblis launch their coup. Duke, Ripcord and :skip: :tracker: :scout: :hunter: :beaver: and :stake: appear attempting to locate the missing group, and fight the Giblis at the end.

:eagle2: :quick: :jammer: and :sparrow: are 'Sigma' team, with :hunter: .

:skip: :tracker: :scout: :beaver: and :stake: are 'Zebra' team.

:chopper: :kiwi: :hotjets: and :moondancer: appear as Howler pilots.

the idea is to bring in more hero characters, without stepping on the toes of the film-makers, by bringing in (for example) Flint and Falcon, and then having them appear in the sequel as new Joes.

sounds cool but the comic market is a pain in the arse to break into. i tried for about 15 years and at 1 point thought i'd cracked it. nearly landed a job as editor for Black Library, the comic arm of games workshop but it fell through at the last moment as they decided to change their publishing format. i was heartbroken.
i've met some pretty big players in the comic world and have had some pretty good advice but have decided to self publish a couple of things i've been working on next year.

i would say the gijoe comic has about 2 years of material worked out but your best bet would be to stick with done in 1 stories following their 16 page format. also bombard them with scripts, at least 1 a week to show you are committed and not just a 1 hit wonder. met mark millar in dublin a couple of years ago and that was how he broke into 2000ad, every week a new script. would also reccomend linking in with an artist to break your scripts down, deviantart is a pretty good place to check and there are artists willing to work for free or for very reasonable page rates.

done in 1 stories are an editors wet dream as they can fill the gap if a regular writer/artist falls behind.
Bill

The comic is aimed at kids still in school as well I think the age group is 6 -12 if I remember correctly from Panini's site so any violence will probably need toning down and having at least 3 beret wearing characters will probably confuse their poor minds. Don't forget Hawk in ROC is pretty similar in appearance to Flint and Falcon is pretty much a copy of Flint too. Maybe use Lt Stone who isn't in the comic yet?

Yep, similar advice I was given - everybody has their wet-dream epic project in mind. Shelve it. You won't get a contract by wanting to rewrite canon, sorry to have to say. You'll have to start small, work your way up and wait until the time is right to get your ideas noticed. Alan Moore did loads of Future Shocks one-offs before writing Watchmen.

Most pee'd off that the "design a character" competition at http://hasbro.promotions.com/gijoecobra ... cale=en_GB is not open to adults (I know, I tried) - I have a cool character idea for a female Joe called O-Ichi and I was going to use it for that

All well and good till you win. There are several fairly obvious reasons why I can never again pretend to be eleven years old... ;)

Borrow another members child if you win - I'm sure that'd be an interesting trade - a few of Ed's Vipers for a loan of an 11 year old for a day or two, so that "Little Annie M" can collect her prize!

I would enter, but I fear when a fat bloke with a beard shows up to collect his prize they may well smell a rat. And besides, my ego couldn't handle losing to an 11 year old!
